Presentation: Non-academic learning in educational practices

Abstract

Societies, since ancient times, have established different types of institutions and educational practices to train their citizens, especially the youngest. Sometimes, these are complex educational systems, with levels and outcomes functionally differentiated; in others, from rather simple or generic institutions or even independent educational initiatives with their own purposes and sources.

Reports of international organizations and educational ministries of many countries relate the level of development in the societies with a higher specialization of their educational systems and show that, as economic and cultural interconnection advances, the educational systems tend to orientate towards measurable and comparable competencies. In this sense, they take a similar shape, as well as the elements used to evaluate their impact and achievement.

Doctor en Educational Policy and Leadership por la Universidad de Kansas, EUA. Profesor e investigador del Departamento de Educación del Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO).  Miembro del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores desde 2003. Líneas de investigación: balance-público privado en la educación superior, relación entre las instituciones educativas y la comunidad, interculturalidad en la educación superior y pensamiento científico en alumnos universitarios.

Susana Cueva de la Garza, Universidad Iberoamericana León

Doctora en Educación por el Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente. Coordinadora del Doctorado Interinstitucional en Educación sede León. Líneas de investigación: concepciones del compromiso social en las prácticas docentes universitarias.
