Literacy experiences in a complex world: from theory to practice, from practice to theory

The term literacidad has been used in Spanish as a substitute for the traditionally used literacy, alphabetize or reading-writing concepts. Although the term it´s not commonly used in all Spanish-speaking academic fields, several authors propose it, considering that it opens up a broader and useful panorama to understand the realities of the use of language in a dynamic society. Literacidad, translation of the English term literacy, involves elements such as the social values of authors and readers, the socio-cultural context in which they are registered, the sense of representation of the world that is built around the text, as well as the mediation processes that help to articulate an oral and/or written speech.
