La motricidad humana ha tenido un papel fundamental en el desarrollo de los individuos y las sociedades a lo largo de la historia. Sus manifestaciones han sido diversas, desde la gimnasia, las luchas o las justas atléticas vinculadas a la preparación militar de la antigua Grecia y Roma hasta los juegos o actividades de carácter lúdico, relacionados con aspectos ceremoniales y rituales. La evolución de la motricidad humana y sus manifestaciones ha dado origen al desarrollo de campos disciplinares específicos, como la educación física, el deporte, la recreación, la actividad física o las prácticas motrices alternativas.
