Los indicadores como herramientas para la evaluación de la calidad de los sistemas educativos

En este artículo se presentan, primeramente, algunos antecedentes del desarrollo de los indicadores sociales y educativos, como parte de una tendencia generalizada a la cuantificación, en relación con las políticas sociales; en seguida, se hacen precisiones sobre la noción, en especial cuando se aplica a la evaluación de la calidad de los sistemas educativos. Luego, se incluyen sugerencias para una sistematización de la metodología para la construcción de indicadores, y se hacen consideraciones sobre los alcances y las limitaciones de este tipo de herramientas, para prevenir el peligro de esperar demasiado de los indicadores, o el de ignorar la complejidad de las tareas que implica su desarrollo, al pensar que pueden llevarse a cabo en tiempos muy breves.
